The greatest resource of St. Michael Parish is the people who make up our community. Many parishioners have chosen to get involved in the life of the parish by joining one of the various groups or ministries.

There are many opportunities here at St. Michaels to participate in serving the community. Below is a listing of all the various groups and ministries. Please click on each selection in order to learn more.

Parish Group Descriptions

1000 Club - ...A fund raiser for St. Michael's parish, membership is available at nominal cost.

A Night In Bethlehem

Accounting Assistants and Counters - ...Parishioners who count the offering of the parish on a weekly basis and deposit in the bank.

Adult Education Programs - ...For sacramental preparation, for special topics, renewal programs, education events.

Alcoholics Anonymous - ...Fellowship of men and women who share their experiences to solve their common problem.

Altar Guild - ...A group who devote a small amount of time cleaning linens and liturgical china to have things shining for Christ.

Altar Servers - ...Boys and Girls in Grades 3 to High School who assist the priest in the celebration of Liturgy. In addition to serving weekend masses, altar servers also serve weddings, funerals, and other functions. All servers undergo a comprehensive training program. St. Michael's currently has over 110 altar servers. All boys and girls are welcome to join this important ministry. 

Arise

Baptism Team- ...Instructors for Baptism Preparation Classes.  Commitment:  flexible - any 2nd Wednesday, 7:30-8:30pmBaptism Coordinators.  Commitment:  flexible - any Sunday at 1:30pm.

Basketball Program

Bereavement Support Group - ...Is available for those who have lost a loved one in death. Our monthly speaker program is open to all and addresses various aspects of grieving. Additional resources and support groups are available in the community.

Bible Study Groups - ...Our Lord has given us His Holy Word as a means to nourish and strengthen our faith through the power of His grace.  It is also a way to enlighten and guide us on our walk with the Lord.  Currently, St. Michael Parish has four study groups.  Generally the groups are small with approximately 6-8 per group.  Groups meet on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in the Youth Office, Tuesday evening in a parishioners home and Thursday evenings in the Youth Office.  If you are interested in joining a group, please contact the rectory.  All are welcome!.

Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality - ...Women of the parish who meet usually the third Monday of the month at 7 PM in the Church for Rosary, Mass and a speaker to honor the life of Mary in our lives.

Bread & Roses - ...Parishioners preparing food and also serving food for Bread and Roses dining room for the needy in Lawrence.

Business Friends of St. Michael’s - ...A group of local businesses forming a partnership with St. Michael Parish to offer financial and organizational suggestions for the parish.

Children's Choir - ...Lifting their young voices but full spirits in song at Family liturgy.

Christ Seekers (RCIA) - ...For all adults who would like to become disciples of Christ through Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, and for those already Baptized who would like to be received into the fullness of Catholic faith.

Christ-Bearers

Circle of Friends - ...Share your love with others, especially to those in need - the grieving, the elderly, the care-givers, the homebound, the sick and more.  Friends help by driving people to appointments, delivering meals, visiting the homebound, making friendly phone calls, holiday decorating, inviting someone home for a meal, helping with yard work or repairs, etc.

Community Outreach - ...Opportunities to help the poor, the unemployed, unwed mothers, and the homeless. See the bulletin or call the rectory for ongoing news items.

Confirmation Ministry - ...For high schoolers, a two-year program usually beginning in the 9th grade.

Cor Unum

Couples Night Out Committee - ...Parish couples meeting to offer support and friendship to one another through social activities.

Cursillo/Ultreya

Ecumenical Outreach - ...Yearly, all the churches of North Andover come together for an Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service. Throughout the year the local clergy convene to discuss ways of promoting Christian values.  St. Michael’s is also a member of The Greater Lawrence Council of Churches (GLCC), whose purpose is to encourage unity in the body of Christ.

Emotional Support Contact - ...A retired therapist has offered his time and professional expertise to assist people who are struggling with life issues such as depression, stress and other personal issues.  His service is not a replacement for counseling or therapy but an opportunity to talk to a health professional who can listen with care and understanding to problem situations being faced in one's life.  Please contact Denis Dupuis at denisjdupuis@gmail.com.  Please type the word, "Support" in the subject line of the email.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Ministers - ...Eucharist Minister at Mass or to the homebound or nursing homes.  Commitment:  Once per month.  Please fill out an interest form and return to the Pastoral Center for the priests to review.  Click here

Evangelization Ministry

Family Enrichment - ...Speakers and video presentations centering on assisting families to understand contemporary challenges and issues in bringing up a family.

Family Liturgy Team - ...Involved parents and children prepare a special liturgy celebrated at 9:00AM every Sunday. Refreshments and social activities follow the liturgy once a month.

Finance Council - ...Mandated by Church Law and appointed by the Pastor, the Finance Council works with the Pastor on the parish budget by monitoring expenses.

Friends - ...Parishioners reaching out to new parishioners, offering information, invitations and encouragement to become involved in St. Michael's parish.

Hancock Project

Health Ministry - ...A group of volunteers who have come together to help parishioners lead complete and healthy lives.  Service includes monthly blood pressure clinics and assistance to the homebound.

High School Youth Program - ...Activities planned for social and spiritual growth for our community of young Catholics.

Holy Name Society - ...A parish fraternity of men dedicated to honoring the Holy Name of Jesus by acts of service and charity, and by building community and faith.

Junior High Youth Group - ...Expanding the young Christian’s social and spiritual activities as a group, grades 6th to 8th.

Knights of Columbus (Camelot Chapter) - ...An international fraternal charitable organization for Catholic men dedicated to service for all.

Lazarus Funeral Ministry - ...Lazarus Funeral Ministry provides support and love to families grieving the loss of a loved one during their funeral Mass at Saint Michael Parish.  The servers for the Lazarus Funeral Ministry set up for the Mass, assist the priest during the Mass and clean up after the Funeral Mass. They provide comfort and solace to our parishioners in representing the wider parish community at the funeral of parishioners’ loved one.  Commitment:  2 hours for one funeral, typically funerals are between 10am and 2pm.  Flexible to fit schedules of those volunteering.  Pick the day of the week that is best for you.  Volunteers are called three days prior to the funeral for availability.  Reward:  Families grieving the loss of a loved one truly appreciate the presence of the servers in the Lazarus Funeral Ministry.

Lazarus House Ministry - ...Volunteers make and serve a dinner for the families at Lazarus House in Lawrence on the first Tuesday and fourth Thursday of the month from 4pm to 7pm. Volunteers sign up for a night by emailing Grace at g.mcfall@comcast.net

Lectors - ...Proclaiming the Sacred Scriptures, our lectors help us to hear the word of God that we might keep it in our lives.

Liturgy Committee - ...Developing liturgical themes, prayers, and offerings for the seasons and individual Sundays throughout the year.

Marriage Preparation Team - ....A team of married couples, ranging from couples that have been married for just a few years, to couples who are now watching their grandchildren grow.  Each couple meets with an engaged couple for mentoring, faith-sharing and friendship and also helps them with the wedding rehearsal and ceremony.

Men's Morning of Prayer - ...Meets weekly on Saturday morning at 7am.  Come together for prayer, coffee and fellowship.  We meet  in the work room at the back of the Parish Center for coffee and donuts.  Then move to the conference room for prayer and reflection of Sunday's Gospel reading.

Mother Theresa Life Ministry

Mothers Morning of Prayer - ...Meets weekly in homes of parishioners to pray together, share life’s struggles and joys, all in an atmosphere of warmth and welcome. Moms are invited to pray the Rosary with us (no experience necessary) using a booklet called "The Scriptural Rosary." Your young children are invited to come along for playtime and snacks. Coffee and fellowship served.

Mothers Offering Mothers Support - ...Mothers of young children who share friendship, support and fun with one another and their children through activities which include Mom and Tots Playgroups and Moms’ Nights Out.

Music Ministry - ...Cantors, organists, choir members providing an essential and beautiful compliment to our experience of worship.

Natural Family Planning - ...Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an umbrella term for certain methods used to achieve and avoid pregnancies. These methods are based on observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. No drugs, devices, or surgical procedures are used to avoid pregnancy. The best way to learn NFP is from a qualified instructor—Earline Tweedie, one of our Saint Michael Parish Staff, is a nationally certified NFP teacher. Nimble Thimbles - ...Women gather to share their talents of sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting.  They have crafted such wonderful things as stoles and chasubles for the priests, lectionary covers to coordinate with the liturgical seasons and quilts and afghans to raffle for fundraising.  Other items, such as sweaters and hats, are also donated to the needy.

Nursing Home/Hospital Ministry - ...Eucharistic ministers assisting the priests in their ministry to the elderly at Mass and during the week.

Parish Council - ...Fostering a strong Catholic community by assisting the Pastor in his role as local shepherd in such areas as worship, evangelization, education, planning, service and charity.

Pastoral Outreach - ...Providing assistance for those seeking emotional support for personal or family problems.

Paulist HELP Volunteers - ...To reach out to our Hispanic Youth in love and friendship, assisting in after-school programs of tutoring, mentoring, social activities and to teach adults & children ESL (English as a Second Language – no Spanish necessary!).

Peace and Justice - ...As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to live out Christ's mission of peace and love in our homes, in our communities and in the wider world.  Below is a list of organizations that seek peace and justice throughout the world:  USCCB, Pax Christi, Fellowship and Reconciliation

Peer Ministry - ...St. Michael’s has two high school peer ministry programs - one for freshmen and sophomores and the other for juniors and seniors.   The groups are trained in Christian Leadership and assist with the planning and coordinating of the 6th-8th grade retreat program and Confirmation day and overnight retreats.

Religious Education (CCD) - ...Grades 1-10, 180 volunteer teachers and leaders, instructing our children in the Catholic Faith. Registration every Fall, baptismal certificate needed and families must be registered in the parish.  Click here for more information.
